LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Nevada earthquake today 2014 has just struck Hawthorne. Another Nevada earthquake today January 13, 2014 has just hit after several comparable quakes in recent weeks. Damage assessment is pending.
Officials tell news that a 2.7 magnitude Nevada earthquake began just after 9:55 am PST today, roughly fifteen minutes ago. The quake had virtually no depth. USGS indicates to news that the quake started five miles below ground level. As a result the quake could be felt across the immediate vicinity.
USGS tells news that the Nevada earthquake was eleven miles from Hawthorne. It was roughly eighty-two miles form Carson City. USGS reports that the quake was eighty-three miles south of Fernley and roughly eighty-seven miles from South Lake Tahoe, California.
Nevada earthquakes have been striking regularly in recent weeks. Such was the case last August a** well. A series of comparable magnitude quakes hit the state at the time. One quake was seven miles northeast of Sun Valley and nine miles northeast of Sparks. It was also close to Reno, namely eleven miles north of town. It began close to Carson City, roughly thirty-five miles north of town as well. And the quake posted a comparable depth, striking only four miles below the earth’s surface.
