Officials tell news that a 6.5 magnitude Puerto Rico earthquake today has just hit locally January 13, 2014 at 12:01 am. The quake followed a 6.4 magnitude Puerto Rico temblor moments earlier. USGS indicates to news that the Puerto Rico earthquake today did not strike on land but out to sea. The quake began off the north coast and registered a nominal depth. USGS tells news that the quake was only eighteen miles below sea level. As a result the Puerto Rico earthquake could be felt across the region.
USGS tells news that the Puerto Rico temblor was thirty-five miles from Hatillo. It was thirty-six from north of Isabella. It was sixty miles northwest of San Juan as well.
In September 2012, a 4.1 magnitude quake struck seventy-five miles northwest of Isabela. The quake was also northwest of Caban. Officials reported to news at the time that the quake was roughly one hundred miles from La Romana, Dominican Republic. The quake’s epicenter, additionally, was only one hundred twenty-miles from San Juan.
