LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Barstow earthquake today 2014 struck sections of California. The Barstow earthquake today January 7, 2014 began in the predawn morning hours. Damage assessment is pending.
Officials tell news that a 2.6 magnitude Barstow earthquake hit today just after 1:50 am PST. The quake was shallow. USGS indicates to news that the quake started only six miles below ground level. As a result the quake could be felt across the region.
USGS indicates to news that the Barstow earthquake today started fourteen miles east of town. The quake was sixteen miles east of Barstow Heights and thirty-eight miles east of Apple Valley. The quake also started forty miles northeast of Victorville.
The same region has not been particularly that active in recent months. In May 2012 however a similar quake struck the region. That quake was eighteen miles northeast of Barstow. It was also twenty-two miles northeast of Lenwood and thirty miles southeast of Goldstone Lake. The quake was also roughly one hundred miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
In August 2013 another quake was twelve miles north of Apple Valley and fourteen miles east of Adelanto. The quake started fourteen miles southwest of Barstow Heights and was centered east of Lancaster and Palmdale.
