LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Japan earthquake today 2014 has struck Yonakuni. The Japan earthquake today January 7, 2014 began in the morning hours. Damage assessment is pending.
Officials tell news that a 5.1 magnitude Yonakuni quake began just after 2:49 am local time. The quake however had substantial depth. USGS indicates to news that the Japan earthquake started one hundred forty-two miles below sea level. As a result the quake was not felt across a large area.
USGS reports to news that the Japan earthquake started seventy miles from Yonakuni. The quake was seventy-two miles east of Keenhung and eighty-three miles east of Yilan as well. Reps tell news that the quake started eighty-six miles east of Sur’ao and roughly six hundred miles from Hong Kong.
Several quakes have been hitting the country in recent weeks. In December one quake started two miles southeast of Abiko. It was two miles northwest of Shiroi and four miles east of Kashiwa. The quake also started four miles northeast of Kamagaya-shi and twenty-two miles east of Tokyo.
In May a similar quake struck the region. That quake was eighteen miles west of Nikko. It was twenty-two miles northwest of Imaichi and twenty-four miles west of Numata. The quake could also be felt twenty-eight miles east in Muikamachi. USGS indicated to news at the time that Japan earthquake was eighty-five miles west of Tokyo.
