Officials tell news that a 4.8 magnitude Mexico terremoto hoy began just after 4:54 PM local time. The quake had a moderate depth however. USGS indicates to news that the quake started twenty-eight miles below ground level. As a result the quake could be felt across the region.
USGS indicates to news that the Mexico earthquake was five miles northeast of Santiago Jamiltepec. The quake was also seventeen miles east of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional. Officials tell news that the quake was fifty miles east of Ometepec and fifty seven miles west of Puerto Escondido.
Several strong quakes have been hitting the country in recent months. In October, 6.5 magnitude quake started forty-six miles south of Thorpe. The quake was fifty-seven miles southwest of Huatabampo. It started sixty-two miles southwest of Villa Juarez as well. In June, a 3.1 magnitude quake struck the same region. The quake was centered forty-miles from Guadalupe Victoria in Baja California. The quake was forty-one miles southwest of Mexicali, as well.
