Officials tell news that a 3.7 magnitude California earthquake today struck just after 2:05 am PST. The quake was shallow. USGS indicates to news that the quake began only four miles below ground level. As a result the quake could be felt across the immediate region.
USGS indicates to news that the California earthquake today started five miles south of Gilroy. The quake was nine miles north of Hollister. It was south of San Jose east of Los Banos. The quake was twelve miles east of Watsonville and roughly one hundred miles south of Sacramento.
The same region has produced several quakes this year. In August a quake was four miles east of East Foothills. The quake was the same distance east of Alum Rock and nine miles east of San Jose. The quake was north of Morgan Hill, west of Modesto, south of Fremont, and north of Gilroy.
In June this year, another quake was six miles east of Livermore and twelve miles west of Tracy. That quake was twelve miles east of Pleasanton and fifteen miles south of Discovery Bay. The quake started sixty-two miles south of Sacramento.
