Officials tell news that a 5.0 magnitude Chile earthquake today began just after 6:17 pm local time. The quake however posted a nominal depth. USGS indicates to news that the quake started only eleven miles below sea level. As a result the quake could be felt on land to the east.
USGS indicates to news that the Chile earthquake today began eighty-six miles west of Lebu. The quake was ninety-seven miles west of Canete and one hundred four miles west of Curanilahue. The quake also started one hundred eleven miles from Arauco, reps tell news.
The nation has been hit several quakes since this summer. In July a 4.9 magnitude quake struck fifty-eight miles northeast of Copiago. The quake was one hundred nine miles southeast of Taltal and one hundred forty miles northeast of Vallenar. Earlier this year, in January, a 6.7 magnitude posting a nominal depth struck the region, officials told news. The quake was only sixteen miles below the earth’s surface. No injuries were reported by news at the time.
