Officials tell news that a 4.8 magnitude Indonesia earthquake today began just after 5:22 PM local time. The quake however had a nominal depth. USGS indicates to news that the quake was only eight miles below sea level. As a result the quake could be felt across the region.
USGS indicates to news that the Indonesia earthquake began seventeen miles southwest of Barbau. The quake was fifty-one miles south of Katabu and one hundred nineteen miles south of Kendari. The quake also started one hundred fifty-eight miles east of Sinjai and three hundred miles west of East Timor.
The country was rocked by several quakes last summer and this fall. In June a 5.2 magnitude Indonesia earthquake started one hundred eleven miles west of Abepura. The quake was roughly one hundred twenty miles west of Jayapura and one hundred fifty miles west of Papua New Guinea’s Vanimo. The quake was also roughly two hundred fifty miles north of Kiunga as well. That same month a 6.1 magnitude quake was forty-five miles southeast of Reudeuet and forty-six miles from Lhokseumawe.
