LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The latest Sammy Sosa face, before and after pictures, are prompting new concerns about skin bleaching. Sammy Sosa’s skin got bleached from cream in 2009, he told news at the time. But he initially blamed the lighter skin on photographers and strong lights used on a red carpet. By late 2009, Sosa assured news that the bleaching may have stopped. But new pictures of Sammy Sousa this week are prompting many to wonder what is going on now for the former baseball celebrity.
Sammy Sosa appeared in public for members of the news media in spring 2009. At the time he appeared much as his normal self seen through years of baseball play. But in fall 2009, just six months later, he appeared at the Grammy Latino Awards several skin tones lighter.
Sosa initially blamed that 2009 Grammys appearance on strong red carpet lines and photographers. He said that his cream “combined with the bright TV lights, made my face look whiter than it really is. I don’t think I look like Michael Jackson” , he told the Chicago Tribune at the time.
Sosa said that he was undergoing a skin rejuvenation treatment which EPSN at the time claimed was “something very common among women.” Sosa told the Tribune “What happened was that I had been using the cream for a long time and that”.
Thereafter, as weeks passed, Sosa finally sat down with “Primer Impacto” program at the Univision Spanish network. He admitted that he was bleaching his skin. “It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and whitens my skin some”. Sosa added “It’s a cream that I have, that I use to soften [my skin], but has bleached me some. I’m not a racist, I live my life happily.”
At time, Sosa told news in 2009 that the skin issue was temporary. But this week, nearly four year late, he posed with Panamanian TV personality Nairobi Dacosta in the above image.
