Eddie Murphy has not died in a snowboarding accident today. But the author of the fabricated tale, Global Associated aka Mediafetcher, has been leaving fans confused since October 2011. First authored around that time, the fake story uses a template which dynamically changes the date to the present.The fabricated tale by Global, however, dates back to as early as 2009. The same fake report was first used against Adam Sandler that year. Sandler is not dead today, and neither is Jackie Chan as well.
What do Sandler and Murphy have in common? Both have been the victims of a snowboarding accident reports by Global over the years. The culprit website uses a preexisting news template, chooses one of several pre-written fake death reports, and dynamically changes the person’s name and the date.
As reported in 2012 on LALATE, “So if you visit the website tomorrow, the date will be changed”. Global takes fake locations and fake events. The location of these death reports is usually either “Zermatt”, “Kitzbühel Austria”, or “Interstate 80?. The causes listed are either snowboarding, hiking, skiing, or car accidents.
But this fake story has been “liked” surprisingly by seventy-two thousand readers on Facebook over the years. “Actor – Eddie Murphy Dies In Snowboard Accident”, reads the fake tale. “Actor Eddie Murphy is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today – September 8, 2013.” It adds “The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.” Eddie Murphy is not dead, nor is Miley Cyrus or Morgan Freeman.
