ST LOUIS (LALATE) – A Mexico earthquake today 2013 has just struck Guerrero, near Acapulco and Mexico City. The Mexico earthquake today August 21, 2013 began just before 6 am PST. The terrmoto en Mexico hoy, a 6.1 temblor, was centered near the coast. Damage assessment is pending, local news is reporting.
USGS indicates to news that a 6.1 magnitude quake struck today just after 5:38 am local time. Officials report that the quake, however, had a moderate depth. The quake started only twenty miles below the earth’s surface. As a result the quake could be felt across the region.
Initial reports put the quake at a 6.0 magnitude. That magnitude was then increased to 6.1 by USGS. They report that the quake was eleven miles northwest to Ayutla de los Libres. The quake was fourteen miles north of San Marcos and nineteen miles southeast of Tierra Colorada. Reps tell news that the quake was thirty-seven miles east of Acapulco de Juarez and one hundred sixty-seven miles south of Mexico City.
In June, a 3.1 magnitude quake struck the county. The quake was centered forty-miles from Guadalupe Victoria in Baja California. The quake was forty-one miles southwest of Mexicali, as well. USGS indicated to news at the time that the quake was only forty-two miles from Calexico and eighty miles from Tijuana.
