LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Rim Fire Map 2013 in Groveland, California prompted new road closures today. Officials battling the Rim Fire Wildfire indicate that several sections of Highway 120 are now closed.
The Rim Fire Map 2013 is now at ten thousand acres. The fire is being battled by nearly five hundred personnel, Incident Commander David Cooper tells news. The fire is spreading on both sides of Jawbone Ridge. The fire has jumped the Tuolumne River and crossed Highway 120 i8n other areas.
As a result, Buck Meadows has been evacuated. Residents are being evacuated to Tioga High School located on 19304 Ferretti Road, Groveland, California.
Road closures have been announced to residents as well. Highway 120 is closed at Smith Station. Highway 120 is also closed to all outbound traffic from Yosemite National Park. And Cherry Lake Road is closed at Highway 120. Officials add that “structure defense is in progress for the community of Buck Meadows.”
Nearly 2500 structures are threatened. Two homes and five other building were destroyed this week on Packer Canyon Road. “Other areas of the fire continued to burn actively with a southeasterly spread of the fire over Highway 120”, officials added.
