ST LOUIS (LALATE) – The Rockport Estates Fire Map 2013 grew overnight as the Utah fire spread near Park City. The Rockport Estates Fire has taken different names since last night including the Summit County Fire, the Rockport 5 Fire, and simply the Rockport Fire. But fire officials caused substantial damage overnight. The fire also threatened Promontory and Bridgehollow Subdivisions.
The Rockport Estates Fire Map 2013 grew overnight after starting at only 1:30 PM yesterday. But in the latest news update from Incident Commander Steve Rutter today August 14, 2013, officials report that at least three hundred fifty homes are under evacuation. The fire has burned at least 4,000 acres.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued yesterday for Rockport Estates, Promontory and Bridgehollow subdivisions. Other Summit County communities have been on voluntary evacuation orders as well.
The fire started midday yesterday near east S.R. 32. Officials report that roughly 15 structures in Rockport Estates subdivision were lost, twelve of which are homes. Rutter tells news that each home that was destroyed was in excess of $250,000 valuation. “We have homes that are completely surrounded by black, vegetation completely gone. But we were able to preserve the homes,” he said in a news statement last night. “It looks really ugly right now. It’s a big black spot but there are still a lot of people who will be able to go home when we open it back up.”
Two evacuation centers have been set up. One is at North Summit Middle School, 64 S 100 E in Coalville. The second is located at LDS ward at 510 Silver Summit Pkwy in Park City. Road closures include S.R. 32 from I-80 (mile post 28) to Brown’s Canyon Rd (mile post 22). Telephone help lines have been set up at (435) 336-3500 or (435) 615-3500
The fire is roughly five percent contained. One hundred firefighters were on scene late yesterday. For the latest fire map and update on the Rockport fire click HERE. For continuing coverage of the Rockport Fire on LALATE click HERE.
