Officials tell news that a 4.9 magnitude Chile temblor today just struck at 9:54 am local time. The quake was on-land. It also posted a nominal depth. USGS indicates to news that the Chile earthquake began only ten miles below ground level. As a result the quake was felt across the region.
The quake was thirty-eight miles southwest of Diego de Almagro. The quake was also fifty-eight miles northeast of Copiago. Officials tell news that Chile earthquake today began one hundred nine miles southeast of Taltal and one hundred forty miles northeast of Vallenar.
Today’s quake was near the May 11 temblor which struck the country. That quake started forty-six miles east of Diego de Almagro. It was eighty-eight miles southwest of Taltal and one hundred miles east of Copiapo. The quake also started northwest of Tinogasta, Argentina and roughly five hundred miles north of Santiago.
Earlier this year, in January, a 6.7 magnitude posting a nominal depth struck the region, officials tell news. The quake was only sixteen miles below the earth’s surface. Comparable quakes have been striking the region as well this year.
