LOS ANGELES (LALATE EXCLUSIVE) – What happened to Duane Lee Chapman, Leland Chapman, and Tim Chapman? LALATE can exclusively report that Duane Lee Chapman, Leland Chapman, and Tim Chapman have all being at odds with the attorney that represents Beth Chapman and Dog the Bounty Hunter, Duane Chapman, since June of this year.
Fans have wondered why Duane Lee Chapman and Lyssa Chapman are not on the new CMT Dog the Bounty Hunter show, Dog and Beth. And in the final season of the A&E, fans watched as Dog got into a disagreement with his son Duane Lee and Leland.
Documents obtained exclusively by LALATE Sunday reveal that, for several months, Duane Lee Chapman II, Leland Chapman and Tim Chapman have been at odds with the same law firm that represents Dog and Beth. While the feud does not concern Dog and Beth, court documents reveal a break down of communication between Duane Lee, Leland and Tim and the family counsel.
In 2008, Duane Lee, Leland and Tim brought legal proceedings in federal court against the production company that produced the A&E show. One of the firms that Duane Lee, Leland and Tim hired to represent them was Beth and Dog’s longtime counsel in Los Angeles. In June this month, the court found that the “Plaintiffs Duane Lee Chapman II, Leland Chapman, and Tim Chapman have not complied with the Courts 6/19/2013 Order to appear in person or telephonically at today’s hearing.”
The court made extensive findings as to breakdowns in communication. “Plaintiffs counsel… represented that he sent a letter to the Plaintiffs [Duane Lee, Leland and Tim] via certified mail, notifying them of the Courts 6/19/2013 Order to appear at the hearing on the Motion to Withdraw As Counsel.”
The counsel had been representing Duane Lee, Leland and Tim. But in recent months, the counsel decided to withdraw. “[..Counsel] stated that the certified letters were received by Plaintiffs [Duane Lee, Leland and Tim] and/or Plaintiffs agent; however, he has not been contacted by the Plaintiffs. [Counsel…] also stated he previously sent the Plaintiffs copies of his Motion to Withdraw as Counsel via email and letter. [Counsel…] stated that some of the emails were returned to him due to defunct email addresses.
The court ultimately found no level of sufficient level of communication exists. “Plaintiffs counsel … have put forth sufficient reasons to indicate a breakdown in communication between counsel and their clients. Plaintiffs counsel has indicated it will be impossible to move forward with their clients due to this lack of communication. ” The counsel was allowed to withdraw, leaving that Duane Lee, Leland and Tim now representing themselves in federal court.
