LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Roberto Pannunzi aka Bé-bé has been captured. Dubbed il “Pablo Escobar italiano”, Pannunzi is believed to be Europe’s largest narcotics broker. While international news today was quick to call him a “mafia” head, news analysts claim that Roberto Pannunzi never committed murder but orchestrated the largest narcotics intentional traffic system as part of the ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate.
Roberto Pannunzi had several legendary covers over the year. In the 1980s, he opened a trendy boutique in Rome called Papavero. He worked for Alitalia. He even bought a Greek ship Mirage II to transport products around the world.
Pannunzi was famous also for his ability to escape prison. In 1999, he complained of a heart problem. He got transferred to a private clinic where he allegedly paid off a guard one million dollars to escape. He then did the same in 2010.
But Pannunzi was arrested Friday in a Colombia shopping mall. He is expected to arrive in Rome today, the first time since he escaped in 2010.
Nicola Gratteri, deputy chief prosecutor in Reggio Calabria, told news that Roberto was allegedly “the biggest [narcotics] importer in the world. He is the only one who can organize purchases and sales of … shipments of 3,000 kilos (6,600 pounds) and up’. Pannunzi is the only one who can sell both to the ‘Ndrangheta and to Cosa Nostra. He is definitely the most powerful drug broker in the world.”
In 1993 the Court of Locri sentenced him to 22 years in prison. He has never served that complete sentence.
