LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Gloria C. McKenzie has won the Powerball. Gloria McKenzie of Zephyrhills, Florida is the $590.5 million winner of the Powerball of May 18, 2013. Moments ago, at a Florida Lottery press conference today June 5, 2013, reps confirmed to news the winner’s identity as Gloria C. McKenzie.
Shortly after the winning numbers were revealed back in May, Florida Lottery executive Cindy O’Connell told news that the there was a single ticket sold a Publix Supermarket in Zephyrhills, Florida. The person correctly picked the winning numbers of 10, 13, 14, 22, 52 and a Powerball of 11. The Powerball’s final draw initially was expected to reach $600 million. That number was thereafter adjusted downward to $590.5 million.
Before today’s news conference, officials indicated to press that the Powerball winner had already presented the winning ticket to state officials. Reps also told news before the press conference that the $590.5 million Powerball winner was a female, in her 80s. She reportedly purchased the winning ticket on a quick pick. Moreover she knew that she had won the night of the results, purportedly watching the winning numbers live on television like much of the nation.
Additionally officials told news before today’s press conference that she is from Zephyrhills, Fla. and that she opted for lump-sum payment option.
Before today’s press conference, Lottery officials told news “We have big news about the $590.5 million Powerball winner! The news will be live on FB today at 2:00.” They later told news “Further delay on the news conference. It’ll happen within the half hour.”
