ST LOUIS (LALATE) – A Baltimore County, MD train derailment explosion today 2013 in Rosedale prompted damage to some local buildings. The Baltimore train derailment and explosion today May 28, 2013 erupted just after 2:02 pm local time. Officials tell news that the derailment involved a CSX train. The location of the crash was 7500 block of Lake Drive near 66th Street in Rosedale, reports WBALTV. Baltimore County Public Safety is reporting that several buildings have collapsed.
In a news statement within the hour, Baltimore County Public Safety indicates that units are on scene. No injures are yet reported. “Fire units o/s at derailed cargo train w/ fire, 7500 blk Lake Dr., White Marsh.” It adds that “hazmat is responding.”
The explosion was so severe that it caused several nearby buildings to collapse. “Preliminary reports: Several buildings collapsed at site of train derailment. PIO en route”, said BACO in a news statement moments ago.
The burning wreckage prompted a massive explosion moments ago in Baltimore County. Micah Grimes reports that the explosion erupted from the fire following the derailment. “Baltimore train incident shows fire, then large explosion”, Grimes wrote on Twitter. He also indicates that the explosion was sent a fireball hurling away from the track. Residents and/or businesses reported windows blown out as far as two miles away.
