LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Damascus, VA car crash today at the Trail Days Parade has injured as many as sixty people. The Trail Days Parade 2013 in Damascus, VA erupted into terror today May 18, 2013 when a vehicle allegedly crashed in a sea of people. Reports are still filtering in from local news reporters and police scanners (crash photos below). The driver of the vehicle is purportedly elderly and allegedly had a medical episode behind the wheel of his older Cadillac. The name of the driver has yet to be released to news.
Scannerfood on Facebook reports that fifty to sixty “walking wounded” are being treated in Damascus, VA currently after the Trail Days crash. The terror involved a “vehicle vs pedestrians”. Reports claim that a vehicle crashed into a sea of people. Initial coverage put the injuries at twelve. Those numbers have been revised upwards to close to sixty as of 3:30 PM EST. Scannerfood also indicates an unconfirmed source at the crash scene stating that “Elderly man in Cadillac possibly having have a medical emergency lost control at 25-35 MPH and struck pedestrians in the parade.”
Officials have set up a triage at Damascus Fire Hall, Scannerfood adds. Cell phone towers in the area are being reported as overloaded. Officials are advising the public to use SMS texting, rather than voice, to alleviate the trouble.
Twitter’s Safety Bob is reporting much the same. He tweeted shortly after 3 PM EST today “some guy drove through the Thru-hiker parade with his car in Damascus, VA.” He also tell news that “A lot of people got hurt. Keep them in thoughts n prayers”.
Kevin Castle is reporting that the driver may have suffered a medical episode. “Preliminary information from law enforcement says the driver who struck parade goers had a medical episode. ” He also claims the above image is the Cadillac which allegedly crashed into the parade. “VSP trooper examines vehicle that crashed into parade in Damascus. Several injured.”
