LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Artemus Racing AC72, the Swedish America’s Cup racing boat, has capsized. America’s Cup officials report that the Artemus sailing yacht capsized in San Francisco’s Bay shortly after 1 pm PST today May 9, 2013. One person is injured.
Officials report that twelve members were on board at the time that the yacht capsized. Coast Guard and San Francisco Fire, already on scene for today’s activities, quickly responded to the boat.
Shortly after 1:30 pm PST today, America’s Cup issued a statement to news about recovery efforts underway. To its Twitter account, the race uploaded the above Twitpic of the boat. It added “Artemis Racing capsize AC72 during training. Support boats on scene to assist in recovery. Updates to come.”
Officials then reported shortly after 2 pm PST that one person has been injured. All persons on board were safely rescued, officials now tell news. But one person suffered injuries. That person briefly went underwater and was reportedly trapped off. CPR was performed on the individual. The condition of the individual currently remains unknown.
