LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Katherine Russell Tsarnaev remains critical for the Dagestan and Chechnya details in the Tamerlan Tsarnaev case. Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s wife, has yet to speak to news. Her lawyer claims that she doesn’t know anything concerning Tamelan’s activities in 2013. But what does Katherine Russell Tsarnaev know about Tamerlan’s activities three years earlier, and about his Chechnya trip?
Katherine Russell Tsarnaev (Facebook account photos below) asserts she didn’t know much about her husband this year because she was working around the clock as a nurse. But what did she know three years earlier when Russia claimed Tamerlan Tsarnaev became radicalized by an external influence? Russia intelligence has told news that, by 2011, they were was tracking Katherine’s husband.
That year, Russia’s secret service was following Katherine Russell Tsarnaev’s husband. They believed that Tamelan had become so radicalized that he prompted a security threat to Russia and the US. As a result, in 2012, Russian intelligence contacted the FBI both at two field offices and the Washington Bureau. FBI officials have since confirmed to news that they interviewed Tamelan in 2012. But his aunt claims that the FBI continued to watch Tamerlan thereafter.
Katherine Russell Tsarnaev’s attorney, however, focuses more on 2013 details in news statements this weekend. “When this allegedly was going on, she was working, and had been working all week to support her family”. But what was transpiring at home from 2009 to 2012?
At issue are two purported trips. What did Tamelan tell Katherine about either trip? First, news reports claim that Tamerlan traveled to Makhachkala in 2011. Sources claim that investigators are trying to determine if Tamerlan visited Gaczhimurad Dolgatov an alleged Dagestani jihadist that year as well.
Then there is a second trip in January 2012. Tamerlan’s father confirms that his son went to Russia that month. He tells news that the two visited Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, and later Chechnya. But he claims that his son never left his side.
A friend told the Daily Mail that Katherine Russell’s conduct starting changing in 2010. Russell was once a student determined to get a college degree. But she changed her plan unexpectedly.
“None of us would have dreamed that she would marry so young or drop out of college and have a baby … She’s just not the same person at all” , a source told news. The source blamed Tamelan for the change.
Her attorney tell news “I spoke to them [the FBI] and that’s all I can say right now.” He added “We’re deciding what we want to do and how we want to approach this” reassuring news that Tamelan “was home” when Katherine was working. He said that Katherine was working 70 to 80 hours a week as a home health care aide. He also told news from her parent’s home in North Kingstown, RI that “We’re doing our best to deal with a very difficult situation. The family’s going through a lot. That’s the best I can do at the moment”.
His aunt, however, tells news that Tamerlan’s conduct changed dramatically even before the 2012 trip. She asserts, thought, after January 2012, Tamerlan was now for the first time praying five times a day at home. She also asserts that Tamerlan became radicalized in the U.S. far before any trips overseas.
Finally, Cambridge City Police Department officials confirm to news that Katherine Russell met Tamelan in a nightclub in 2009. That same year Tamelan was arrested on domestic violence charges against Katherine. Shortly thereafter, they married, she got pregnant, dropped out of school, and converted. Russian intelligence claims that, at the same time, FBI officials were meeting with Tamerlan at home and interviewing family members as well.
