LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A 7.8 Iran earthquake today 2013 has hit Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai, India’s New Delhi, and Qatar. The Iran earthquake today April 16, 2013 struck thirteen minutes ago. Hundred are feared dead.
Officials tell news that a massive Iran earthquake today 2013 (maps below) has struck Iran, centered near Pakistan and Afghanistan. The quake was across the Gulf of Oman from UAE’s Dubai, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It remains unclear how far the earthquake was felt. But several weeks ago, LALATE reported that a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the same region could be felt in Saudi Arabia.
Officials tell news that Iran earthquake today 2013 was northwest of India, west of Pakistan and south of Afghanistan. The quake was east Kuwait, northeast of UAE, Bahrain and Oman, east of Saudi Arabia, and northeast of Yemen.
The quake is believed to be the deadliest to strike the Middle East in years. The 7.8 magnitude quake struck at 4:55 am PST, or 3:44 PM local time today. The quake posted a moderate depth, however, officials tell news. It started fifty-one miles below ground level.
Officials report that the quake started fifty-three miles east of Khash. The quake was one hundred three miles northeast of Iranshahr. USGS indicates to news that the quake started one hundred twenty-three miles southeast of Zahedan and one hundred forty-seven miles southwest of Rudbar.
Local news initially reported that the quake was 8.0. But it was later downgraded to 7.8 magnitude. The quake could be felt in New Delhi, India, officials tell news. CNBC Dubai felt the quake’s impact.
Iran officials reported that at least forty people are dead. Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plan has not suffered damage, officials confirm to news.
