LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A 24 movie is allegedly not happening. Director Antoine Fuqua tells news that the 24 movie is a dead project. The revelation shocked fans after several years of statements suggesting otherwise.
In July 2012, CravenOnline reported that Kiefer Sutherland anticipated filming would begin by that time. But during a July update, Sutherland said that the 24 movie could begin filming in summer 2013. He said “We didn’t have a script ready for that until very close to the end of ‘Touch.’ We knew we were coming back so there was a very finite window for me to make the film, to try to prep it, cast it and all of those other things.” He also told news “It was just unrealistic for Fox to try and make it, so they pushed it for next break.” When pressed if filming could commenced in summer 2013, he added “I believe so, yeah.”
So what was the issue? Apparently money may have been at issue. “I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me,” Fuqua tells IndieWire news this week. “I met with Kiefer [Sutherland]. Fox wanted to do it. It was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [Touch].” When asked why the project is purported dead, he added “I don’t think he [Kiefer] was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.”
