CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – A Brandon, Florida sinkhole victim has died. The man lived east of Tampa in Hillsborough County in a one story house. Above is an older image of the residence before last night’s terror.
Officials on the Florida sinkhole case tell news that the male was asleep inside his bedroom when the terror began. Suddenly a sinkhole began to form underneath his bedroom. Immediately, the man’s brother jumped to the side to avoid being drawn into the sinkhole. The brother desperately tried to rescue the victim. But slowly the 36 year old was pulled below the ground.
Overnight, officials tried to rescue the victim. But shortly after 6 am local time, officials gave disappointing news. “It’s not confirmed, but I think it’s safe to presume,” Hillsborough County fire department spokeswoman Jessica Damico said in a news statement. Damico is still unsure what cause the hole to develop.
Damico told news that rescuers were not able to get into the hole because it was too dangerous. They also warned that the hole may expand to other residences as well. Officials suspect that the hole was naturally forming. They believe the hole is fifty-feet deep and one hundred feet wide. Engineers are on site to determine the safety of the neighborhood Friday.
