Morgan Threatens to Deport Self Admist Deportation Petition
LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Piers Morgan has threatened to deport himself if gun laws are not changed. The Morgan deportation self-threat was announced this week after an online petition asked for the CNN host to be deported. Morgan, however, says it’s ironic that others have asked him to be deported for exercising his First Amendment rights.
Days ago, a Piers Morgan deportation petition grew after the CNN host urged for gun laws to change. Now Morgan tell news that that the petition is ironic, “given that by expressing my opinion I was merely exercising my rights, as a legal US resident, under the 1st Amendment, which protects free speech.”
On Christmas, Morgan tweeted his followers “Merry Christmas! Even to those who want me deported.”
Over the weekend, Morgan published an article in the Daily Mail, a British news publication that also features U.S. stories. The article entitled “Deport me if America won’t change its crazy gun laws” drew quick reaction overnight.
Morgan reacts to the petition. “A petition was created on an official White House website demanding my deportation for ‘attacking the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution’. This, of course, is the one that alludes to an American’s ‘right to bear arms’.”
He calls the petition “ironic”. He tells news “The concerted effort to get me thrown out of the country – which has so far gathered more than 90,000 signatures – struck me as rather ironic”.
Morgan is not agreeing to deport himself. But says he would “seriously consider deporting myself” if the laws are not passed. “I can spare those Americans who want me deported a lot of effort by saying this: If you don’t change your gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage, then you don’t have to worry about deporting me.” For more click HERE.
