Phaedra Parks, Apollo Divorce Storyline Prompts RHOA Confusion

Phaedra Parks, Apollo Divorce Storyline Strikes RHOA

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Are Phaedra Parks and Apollo getting a divorce? “Phaedra and Apollo are getting a divorce”, husband Peter Thomas tells Cynthia Bailey on the Real Housewives of Atlanta episode debuting Sunday. But do Phaedra Parks and Apollo get divorced, are Phaedra and Apollo divorced now, or is this Bravo simply tacking a hideously false online report and make it a fake reality TV storyline as well? Phaedra and Apollo are not getting divorced, despite the Bravo confusion.

Phaedra Parks and Apollo divorce confusion began early this week when Bravo first began running previews of the new RHOA episode. The cast is back from the vacation and tensions are running high between Phaedra Parks and husband Apollo Nida. Phaedra Parks has previously defended Apollo’s former criminal record. But in the new episode, Apollo says he doesn’t like what marriage has done to him. Moreover, he says he wishes he was single.

The tensions are previewed with Peter Thomas holding up a picture of a “blog” and telling his wife the bad “news”. But is it news or just false rumors? “Phaedra and Apollo are getting a divorce. It’s on this blog”, Peter tells his wife. Peter doesn’t show the name of the blog. And despite what Peter reveals, the blog report was nothing but false rumors shot down shortly after they were published.

In July 2012, one blog published a false “exclusive” claiming that Parks went to “her” church Light and Salvation Outreach Ministries Church on a “Sunday” and was ringless. A subsequent news report by Sister 2 Sister confirmed that Parks doesn’t go to that church, and that the church didn’t have even have services that Sunday.

This weekend on Bravo, Peter, Cynthia, Phaedra and Apollo head to a club. But during that visit, Apollo admits that he leaves his wife at home often and goes to watch the dancers alone. “I thought you go to … clubs, you have been here before?” asks Cynthia. Apollo responds back. “My outlet. I am st-p club person. I go to st–p clubs allot.” Then he says negative things about his wife. “Phaedra needs to go out and have a great time.”

But the discussion becomes peculiar. “A lot of people live between the hours of 7 am and 8 pm. I don’t live with time restraint. Time restraint is for people who have to abide by time and life through a sector of time schedule.” That leaves Cynthia perplexed.

But then come the Apollo jabs. “Since we got married, both of us were two different characters, individuals. I think we have left a sense of who we really are deep down inside. I think it makes yourself a bit better.” Parks is unhappy with the use of the term “bitter”, looking at Apollo displeased. He jabs back. “Stop putting me on the defense. I think I have lost a sense of who I am… I need that person back.”

In a moment that seems pulled from a bad RHONJ storyline, Apollo then hurls insults at Phaedra when she is not around. He tells Peter “I am dealing with god d—mn beast. My wife is on one million every day.”

Despite the negative comments that will air Sunday, reports of a Phaedra Parks and Apollo divorce in July 2012 were false. The couple never got divorced and are still very much in love and married.

Similarly, I wonder if the Kenya-Cordell airhead-country bumpkin schtick is exaggerated for the show. Kenya’s persona – especially coupled with her foul-mouthed encounter with Kenya in Anguilla – is not a good look for the Hosea Williams charity she reps, but

Oops! I meant the Porsha-Cordell airhead-country bumpkin schtick.

…but I hope, at the very least, Porsha’s participation in the show results in increased awareness of Mr. Williams’ work and support for his foundation.
