LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Is Walmart open on Christmas Day? Walmart, Target and Best Buy are not open for Christmas Day December 25 for shoppers across the country. Despite some food establishment opening their doors for Christmas Day, Walmart tells news that it will keep its doors closed all day long. But it will reopen on December 26.
For retailers, Christmas Day serves as a time for employees to spend the holidays with their families while relaxing before the rush of the after-Christmas sales. In contrast, other retailers in comparable genres – Walgreens and Rite-Aid – are traditionally open partially on Christmas Day.
Walmart and Target will be closed today on Christmas Day along with competing retailers like JCPenney and Best Buy. But among fast food establishments, Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks tells news that most of the locations will be at least partially open today December 25.
Walmart kicked off this holiday season with its “12 Days of Giving” holiday campaign. Over the month of December, Walmart told news how it gave seventy thousand dollars to nonprofits that help their community.
“As temperatures drop, many people lack the resources to buy clothes to keep themselves and their families warm throughout the winter,” said Sylvia Mathews Burwell, president of the Walmart Foundation. “The local organizations selected today are meeting this need in their communities with donations of cold-weather essentials such as socks, coats and gloves.”
Walmart in a news statement this month indicates that “Over twelve consecutive days, Walmart has awarded a total of $1.5 million to 140 organizations across the country that are providing basic needs and services such as food, shelter, clothing and medical care.”
