ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Robert Griffin III has been fined $10,000 for his Adidas attire. Griffin was fined $10,000 by NFL this week for wearing an Adidas T-shirt and sweatsuit during his post-game press conference. RG3 has a lucrative personal endorsement deal with Adidas. But the NFL’s apparel sponsor is not Adidas, but Nike.
In recent months, RG3 raised eyebrows for his antics about Adidas and conduct against Nike. Twice before, Griffin covered up the Nike logo during team warmups before NFL games. In New Orleans, he covered up the Nike logo completely. In St Louis, he put his NFL Nike sweatshirt inside out so you couldn’t see the Nike image.
But on Wednesday, the NFL told news that they had enough with Griffin’s antics. At issue was his news conference this week. While appearing before news reporters, Griffin was wearing a sweatshirt and t-shirt made by Adidas. While he was happy about his win against the Ravens, the NFL was not happy about his Adidas items.
Officials believe the fine was warranted. They had given Griffin not one but two warnings before about the league’s policy regarding Nike. Earlier this year, the league told news that Griffin’s conduct toward the Nike logo “won’t happen again.” But after that, Griffin took a pen and marked out the Nike “swoosh logo” in exchange for the word “heart”.
“I have not heard from the league yet,” Griffin told news yesterday. “That’s all I’ll say about that.”
