CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – At least 22 are dead in a prison break in Mexico. The prison is named Cesero No 2 facility in Gomez Palacio aka el Centro de Reinserción Social 2 de Gómez Palacio, Durango. After 22 persons were found dead following the prison break, the head of the SSP of Durango, Jesus Antonio Rosso, quickly evacuated all remaining inmates. In a news briefing, Rosso confirmed that all his remaining five hundred thirty-five inmates were quickly evacuated. By late today, the prison was empty.
While initially 22 persons were reported dead, Public Safety Secretary for the state, Jesus Antonio Rosso Holguin, told news later today that the death toll is now at twenty-three. Local news, however, is indicating that the death toll is far greater. One report lists twenty-five persons dead. Additionally, other news reports indicate that only forteen inmates were found dead and the remaining victims were guards. Local news suspects that nine guards died during the prison break.
The officials news statement today indicated that the death toll could still rise. “We have seven injuries right now, it gives us the possibility that in a while, it could increase the number.” The news statement added that “The inmates started to shoot with firearms toward the guard towers and the guard areas.” Officials assure news that the prison break was stopped because of the swift effort of responding state officers.
