LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Pacquiao vs. Marquez knockout fight 2012 Saturday left uncertainty for a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao showdown anytime soon. Who won the Pacquiao vs. Marquez boxing fight? In the sixth round, Marquez was declared the winner after a stunning knockout of Pacman. The Pacquiao vs. Marquez knockout left many fans shocked, including those which had been promised for 2012 a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao boxing event.
Bob Arum told news a year ago this month that a May 2012 fight was likely for the two fighters. That didn’t happen. Then in September, Arum assured news that the Mayweather-Pacman deal was being revisited for a 2013 spring showdown. But what happens to that after Saturday’s results?
Arum told news in September “I want to explore with Manny the feasibility of doing a Mayweather fight sometime next year. I have to get his idea on schedules and when he is going to have to start campaigning for office.” He added “I know how to handle that with the Mayweather people and do the best deal possible and then get back to Manny. I am very optimistic we are going to get it done for next year.”
Pacman previously told news “I don’t know what’s the reason why that fight has not happened. … It’s OK for me if he gets a higher percentage than me.”
But after the Ortiz win, Mayweather showed no interest in Pacman. “He lost to Marquez three times. May 5 is the date, sign the contract, I’m waiting.” The contract wasn’t signed, and still isn’t signed today.
