LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Honey Badger is joining the 2013 NFL Draft. Honey Badger (Tyrann Mathieu) wants an NFL Draft slot. But he hasn’t played a game since the BCS National Championship since Jan. 9, 2012. Since then, he was removed from LSU’s team for a failed drug test and he has been arrested for alleged possession of marijuana. But at 5′8”, Honey Badger thinks the NFL wants him.
Honey Badger made his announcement to news in a statement this week. But so far, NFL analysts aren’t sure how the league will respond to his 2013 draft decision. A Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011, Honey Badger was praised by news analysts before the 2012 season as one of the best, if not the best, collegiate cornerbacks.
“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to forego my remaining college eligibility. It is my intention to apply to enter the 2013 NFL Draft. It is time for me to move forward” he told news in a statement Tuesday.
He apologized to his team. “I am sorry that I was not able to complete my journey at LSU, but I will always support LSU in any way I can. To my teammates, you are my brothers. You have kept me going. I will do my best to make you all proud of me. Stay strong and play hard.”
He claims that he is still battling his own troubles. “I am committed to tackling my personal issues and will work to better myself everyday as a man first and only then as a football player. I will always consider myself an LSU Tiger.”
