LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Carnaval de San Miguel (en vivo below) aka the Carnival of San Miguel 2012 returns with a live broadcast tonight November 24, 2012. Carnaval de San Miguel culminates a series of celebrations across the region this week. But in keeping with a history started in 1939, and modified twenty years later, the Carnaval will return to the streets tonight with live streaming video below (transmission en vivo) provided by TVO Canal 23.
Organizers tell news that floats will fill the streets tonight. Start time on the Carnaval de San Miguel 2012 is 6 pm locally tonight with more telecasts kicking in at 10 pm locally.
Earlier this week, Sarbelio Campos, director of the Institute Gerardo Barrios and Historian migueleño, told news that “Everything [shown in the carnaval is] what the doctor looked for and was his intention was to make a kind of popular carnival, where the different social strata to participate. And that instead of these big bands were enclosed in these centers, it was best to get them out into the street and dance there anyone who would.”
The current carnival took its shape in 1959 under Governor Charlaix Miguel Felix. After seeing other carnivals worldwide, he devised a new vision for the carnivals which had moved in dates and locations previously. Originally held in May, local carnivals were moved in 1939 to November 21 for the Virgin of Peace and offered in locations like the Casino Migueleño
But in a news statement this week, organizers said “The holiday of November in honor of Our Lady of Peace took a new turn from 1959, the year the region appointed as governor Dr. Miguel Felix Charlaix. Thanks to the experience that they had earned during his numerous trips abroad to places where they are very common and traditional carnivals, he devised this bright idea to make one for her land.”
Dr. Miguel Felix Charlaix, eventually died March 21, l966 in a plane crash. But his vision still carries on tonight. A complete listing of tonight’s calendar can be seen HERE. Below is live, en vivo video.
