Jill Kelley’s role as an honorary consul first surfaced last weekend. At the time, news reporters were on her front lawn in Tampa. So Kelley called an emergency dispatcher. In her 911 tape recording, Kelley said that she needed diplomatic protection. “You know, I don’t know if by any chance, because I’m an honorary consul general, so I have inviolability, so they should not be able to cross my property. I don’t know if you want to get diplomatic protection involved as well.”

It was confirmed by Monday that Kelley is an honorary consul but would not be entitled to the protection she sought in the 911 call. That day, ALATE reported that Kelley serves as an “honorary consul” for the South Korean government. The status was confirmed by the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Her role according to Yonhap is to have “good connections and network and a willingness to develop Korea-U.S. relations, including the free trade agreement between the two nations.”

Victor claimed that General Petraeus got her that position. That has yet to be confirmed to news. “Frankly, I blame Gen. Petraeus for this as a lapse of judgment,” Victor said to ABC News . “The general should have known better.”

He claims that “free trade” wasn’t s so allegedly free with Kelley. Victor claims she wanted $80 million for a deal. “Ms. Kelley made it clear to me that General Petraeus put her in this position, and that’s why she was able to have access to such senior levels [of the Korean government],” said Victor. “They were essentially doing a favor for General Petraeus, and that she had access solely because of her relationship with General Petraeus.”
