ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Is there mail today, and is the Post Office and banks open on Veterans Day 2012 today? Banks and Post Offices are closed for Veterans Day 2012 observance today, officials tells news. While Veterans Day fell on Sunday, officials indicate to news that the federal holiday will be observed today November 12, 2012 with closure of offices and agencies.
Veterans Day is one of the national holidays that prompts confusion about mail service, post office closures, and bank hours. The problem erupts when the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, officials tell news.
Federal holidays are detailed annually by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) every year in January. And while holiday dates may change, one thing doesn’t. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday.
That was the issue this year with Veterans Day. While the holiday fell on Sunday, OPM indicated to news that it will be observed this Monday. Hence, all U.S. Post Offices will be closed today in observance of the holiday. There will no mail service, the USPS tells news.
All local, state, and federal movement offices, agencies, courts, and departments will also be closed today in observance of the holiday. Banks, lending institutions, markets, and credit unions will generally be closed today as well, officials tell news.
