LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Holly Petraeus, David Petraeus’ wife, continued working Friday as her husband’s mistress cheating scandal grew. Holly Petraeus aka Holly Knowlton (photos below) had lots to say Friday about how military families should prepare for changes in their lives. But she had nothing to say about the changes that struck her family since her husband, publicly, admitted to an affair.
News reports have yet to determine when the David Petraeus mistress affair cheating scandal erupted. He himself does not detail when the scandal began, nor when his wife found out about it. He did, however, wait to announce the matter after the Presidential elections were concluded. As soon as the scandal broke, however, Holly Petraeus continued to work and blog as though nothing had happened.
Holly Petraeus now works with the Office of Servicemember Affairs (OSA). She has been with her husband David Petraeus since west Point. At the time, her father Army General William A. Knowlton was the superintendent of West Point. She serves as assistant Director for the Office of Servicemember Affairs at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
And while her focus, even in news comments on Friday, was to help military families, readers were lending their support for her during this difficult time. The couple have been married for decades and have several children.
But with any affair scandal, silence by the parties, especially in the internet age, grows the scandal through gossip and conjecture. Holly Petraeus’ situation could have remains a private one between her and her husband.
Yet, the story became problematic on Friday with NBC News’ new allegations. It claimed that the female and younger biographer for David Petraeus was under investigation by the FBI allegedly trying to access his email accounts.
By evening, a story which began only between Holly Petraeus and David Petraeus was branching into unsubstantiated gossip allegations by Slate.com about the biographer, Paula Broadwell, and soon even about her husband, Scott Broadwell. The Broadwells have yet to comment to news about the Slate.com’s allegations.
Holly Petraeus has been applauded for her work not just with families but also recent graduates. Recently she told news “One particular conversation with a young sailor stands out. He was just out of basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes. He told me that he entered the Navy with over $100,000 in student loan debt – and no degree!” She added “He joined the Navy because it was the only way he believed he could “make it,” but most of his Navy paycheck was going towards paying off those loans.”
Now her organization’s efforts have targeted student loan benefits. She recently indicated to news “We’ll be teaming up with DoD to get the word out about military student-loan benefits and consumer protections. We’ve developed a “Guide for Servicemembers with Student Loans” with information on repayment options, as well as an FAQ section for military student loan borrowers at Ask CFPB.”
