LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The arrest of someone for speaking too long during a Riverside City Council meeting is prompting a local scandal tonight. A 60 year old woman named Karen Wright was arrested, left in pain, and dragged off by officers like she was a common criminal all because she had more than three minutes to talk about the City’s sludge hauling contract. She was not seeking to interfere with the hearing; rather she just wanted more than three minutes to talk.
Now locals are calling for the resignation of Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge who allowed the arrest to happen and be captured live on video (below). Loveridge said that police officers will no longer be able to appear at the hearing and won’t be able to arrest speakers unless instructed to.
In the video, the 60 year old woman is shouting “Can you see my wrists? You’re pulling and jerking on my wrists!” She adds “I cannot get up without putting my hands down!”
Other spectators are pleading for the officers to stop the arrest. Wright has yet to comment to news about the matter. While she suffered some pain during her arrest, her current condition remains unknown. Charges against Wright have yet to be dropped by Loveridge or city officials.
