El Salvador Earthquake Today 2012 Erupts Near La Libertad

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – A moderate El Salvador earthquake today struck near La Libertad. The terremoto en El Salvador hoy is the latest in a series of quakes erupting near the same epicenter. The quake was off the coast, but fostered a relatively shallow epicenter, USGS indicates to news.
Officials tell news that a 4.5 magnitude El Salvador earthquake today September 18, 2012 struck in the predawn morning hours. The quake erupted at 2:20 am local time. But USGS indicates to news that the quake erupted only twenty-two miles below the earth’s surface. As a result, the quake could be felt to the east.
USGS indicates to news that the quake was eighty-three miles south of Puerto El Triunfo. The quake also erupted eighty-three miles south of La Libertad and eighty-eight miles south of Zacatecoluca. Officials also report that the quake was only ninety-eight miles south of San Salvador.

Eight days ago, a 4.8 magnitude quake struck the region. The quake also erupted seventy miles south of Usulutan and seventy-three miles southwest of San Rafael Oriente. Shaking continued seventy-eight miles south of Santiago de Maria and ninety miles from San Salvador.
Mapping today reveals that the quake was west of Nicaragua and southeast of Guatemala. The quake was also southwest of San Miguel and Gotera. No reports of damage have yet to be indicated by local news.
