CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – A New York tornado today 2012 was spotted shifting from Coney Island to Manhattan. The tornado touched down this morning September 8, 2012 after the National Weather Service issued a news advisory for Queens and Brooklyn.
The NY Post reports that a tornado today touched down on Coney Island (photos below). But the system didn’t stop there. The Post claims that the tornado “made its way to New York City” as well.
Local fire is reporting fallen power lines in Point Breeze today. NWS officials had told news that Queens and Brooklyn could be impacted Saturday morning. They reported a “strong rotation” however indicating that the system could shift dramatically.
Local beaches are still deserted, the POST tells news. The NWS has issued a tornado watch Saturday for New York City and parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, New York State and Massachusetts. That watch remains in place until 9:00 p.m. tonight.
Elsewhere, the NWS is warning of a “band of thunderstorms will also develop farther along the cold front this afternoon into Virginia and the Carolinas. Wind profiles will not be as strong as areas farther to the north, but scattered wind gusts can still be expected.” For photos of the New York area tornado, click HERE.
