LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Sherman Hemsley will dispute is heating up with assertions by Kenny Johnston and Flora Enchinton against Richard Thornton. Sherman Hemsley made his career playing a cast of characters. But now several names are coming up in a Texas courtroom over who should have the right to Sherman Hemsley’s body and his estate.
At issue is a purported will. In it, Flora Enchinton is listed as Hemsley’s “beloved partner”. She is also listed as his sole beneficiary to his estate. She tells news that she had been his manager for twenty years and met Hemsley when he was living with his friend, Kenny Johnston. But the Hemsley’s will was purportedly signed in the last two months before his death.
During that decades that she knew Hemsley, she claims that she and Johnston never heard from any of Hemsley’s relatives. But now, Richard Thornton is claiming to be the heir to the estate and Hemsley’s brother. Thornton has hired an El Paso attorney.
Meantime, as the will dispute continues, the burial gets delayed. Sherman Hemsley currently remains unburied in Texas while his will is disputed. Hemsley made his initial appearance on the Norman Lear / Woody Kling episodes of All in the Family before getting his own spinoff series.
