Taylor Bridge Fire: Ellensburg, Cle Elum Get Improved Containment Lines

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – The Taylor Bridge Fire (fire map below) got improved containment lines near Ellensburg and Cle Elum today. Ellensburg and Cle Elum residents have been on alert as the Taylor Bridge Fire continues to burn amid worsening weather conditions Saturday.
But officials tell news that preparations have been effective. The Taylor Bridge Fire improved to forty percent containment today despite a major Red Flag Warning issued Saturday. Firefighters now believe that the major improvement could come Sunday.
Officials tell news that, because of the nearly 100 degree temperatures, “fire activity is expected to increase and significant threat to structures remains a concern.” But firefighters believe that no additional structures have been lost in recent days. Yet, structural assessment will continue today to determine if forty-eight residences have been lost during the blaze.
While temperatures are jumped today, humidity levels are dropping. Weather news reports put humidity levels under 15% Saturday.
Yet, with nearly one thousand firefighters on scene, the fire has still been held at twenty-three thousand across and forty-percent containment. The fire is now roughly four miles outside of Cle Elum.
Incident Commander Rex Reed says that the attention Saturday is on the northern section of the fire. Officials tell news that “focus of fire crews today continues to be strengthening the northern flank of the fire between SR97 and the intersection of SR 970 and SR 10, with special emphasis on yesterday’s spotfire. Mop-up continues in the remainder of the fire footprint.” For the latest fire and updates, click HERE.
