Mexico vs USA 2012: Landon Donovan and Chicharito Deliver Slow Start

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Mexico vs. USA 2012 (en vivo en ESPN) are currently battling in their futbol International Friendly game today. But moments ago, Mexico vs. USA headed to halftime with a 0-0 score. Mexico had numerous goal attempts, and missed them all. Today marks the rematch between USA and Mexico from the Copa Oro 2011 in Los Angeles. And while the team lineups have changed, the rivalries haven’t.
By halftime, Mexico vs. USA 2012 was scoreless. But the grid of shot attempts showed the aggressiveness of Mexico. Mexico had taken six goals, compared to USA’s two shots. Three of the goal attempts were from number eighteen, Andrés Guardado, and one was from midfielder Pablo Barrera. And yet, Mexico still couldn’t deliver points. If fans wanted to see goal shots early on from Landon Donovan and Chicharito (Javier Hernandez), those didn’t happen.
Going into last year’s Gold Cup finals, Chicharito told news “I’m not obsessed with goals. The goals are the result of the work of the whole team. The forwards only have the good fortune to score them”. Team USA told news at the time “I don’t think you can get tired of playing against Mexico.” The finals match drew one hundred thousand fans en vivo to the Rose Bowl. Most of Los Angeles’ downtown highways were backed up. And many local merchants closed earlier to watch the game.
And while on the field the teams are fierce opponents, off the field they admire each other’s kills. Landon Donovan has previously praised Chicharito as the best striker into the world. “They’ve got perhaps the hottest striker in the world on their team right now.”
And while last June Mexico was led by Chicharito, Barrera and Giovani Dos Santos, Dos Santos did not suit up for tonight’s showdown. So will the second half pick up tonight? For live score updates of tonight’s match, click HERE.
