LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Misty Cook (photos below), Wade Michael Page’s ex-girlfriend, has been arrested. Misty Cook, a nursing student in South Milwaukee, and an alleged former member of Volksfront, was Wade Michael Page’s girlfriend in the months leading up to the Sikh Temple Shooting 2012 in Oak Creek. But now Cook has been arrested on weapons charges unrelated to Cook’s deadly rampage.
Officials tell news that Misty Cook is not being linked to Cook’s shooting massacre at the temple. Rather, she is being charged with alleged possession of a weapon by a former felon. The District Attorney, however, has yet to decide whether to pursue the case.
Officials tell Fox6 News that police went to question Cook at her home Tuesday. Following their questioning, they searched Cook’s home and allegedly found a weapon. Thereafter, they charged her with allegedly being a felon in possession of a weapon. FOX is reporting that the weapon recovered from the Cook home is not linked to the temple shooting.
“The South Milwaukee Police Department requested from ATF a trace of a firearm that was found to be in her possession,” ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern told the Los Angeles Times last night. “We provided [the Police Department] with the history of that firearm, and it’s up to [the department] whether or not to share that information with the public.”
Neighbors report that Page lived with Cook as recently as eight months ago. But in roughly July, Cook alleged broke up with Page. Thereafter, Page allegedly quit work.
WSAU is also confirming the same. As officials search for a motive in Wade’s shooting, WSAU is also confirming that Cook broke up with Page just weeks before his rampage. Cook herself in 2005 became felon for fleeing police officers in Milwaukee County.
In some pictures dispersed by the Anti Defamation League today, Cook appears wearing a t-shirt from the white supremacist group Volksfront. The group has said of Page that he “has never been a member of, or associate of our organization”.
The Anti-Defamation League, however, tells the LA Times that Cook allegedly was a active member of Volksfront from roughly 2007-2008. “She was part of Volksfront. She had a longtime affiliation with that group. She attended their meetings, and she was an active member,” said Jenna Benn, assistant director of the ADL in Chicago, in a news statement to the LA Times.
