New Zealand Earthquake Today 2012 Strikes Near North Island

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A moderate New Zealand earthquake today 2012 was felt across the region. The New Zealand earthquake erupted roughly forty minutes ago off the east coast of the North Island. No reports of damage have yet to be reported by local news.
Today’s New Zealand earthquake erupted at 4:45 am PST. USGS indicates to news that a 4.5 magnitude quake erupted this morning August 3, 2012. The quake, however, had a moderate depth, striking roughly twenty miles below the earth’s surface.
The quake erupted roughly two hundred miles north east of Opotiki and Gisborne. The quake was northeast of Whakatane and Tauranga, officials tell news.
In related news, a 5.4 magnitude quake erupted today near the Santa Cruz Islands. The quake struck at 4:58 am PST and registered a nominal depth, USGS indicates to news. The quake was only seventy-three miles southwest of Lata in the Solomon Islands. The quake was roughly three hundred miles north west of Luganville, Vanuatu.
Also earlier this morning, a 4.9 magnitude quake erupted off the eastern coast of Japan. The Honshu neighboring quake began with a moderate depth, however, striking forty-one miles below the earth’s surface. USGS indicates to news that the quake was only one mile from Otsuchi and five miles southwest of Yamada. The quake also could be felt eight miles north in Kamaishi and sixteen miles in Miyako.
