NeNe Leakes, “I Dream of NeNe”, Former Spinoff Series Revealed: EXCLUSIVE

LOS ANGELES (LALATE EXCLUSIVE) – NeNe Leakes was pursued for a spinoff series called “I Dream of NeNe” by producers of Real Housewives of Atlanta, LALATE can exclusively report. NeNe Leakes joins “The New Normal” on NBC this fall created by Allison Adler, Ryan Murphy and featuring Antoinette Abbamonte, Ellen Barkin, Justin Bartha, and Jayson Blair. But in spring 0211, she was the subject of a reality show envisioned by her Atlanta producers.
In March 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a trademark for new reality show project entitled “I Dream of Nene”. The mark was issued for “entertainment services in the nature of a reality television series”. And who sought the trademark? The applicant for the mark was True Entertainment LLC, the production company behind Real Housewives of Atlanta and Don’t be Tardy for the Wedding, LALATE can report.
In fact, the mark was issued at the same time that Atlanta news was claiming that Bravo was considering spinoff series for the cast RHOA members.
Leakes in February at the time said “I have had many offers since 1st season but it has 2 b the right thing.” In March, Leakes told followers that she had been offered a reality show but had turned it down. She said she had “been offered” a spinoff but prefers “acting & talk show hosting.”
And where did the name “I Dream of Nene” come from? Purportedly, Bravo entitled an October 2010 episode of RHOA with the same name.
So will I Dream of Nene ever be produced? Because this trademark application is a “1B” type application aka “intent to use”, the trademark owner True Entertainment has to provide evidence of its use of “I Dream of Nene” in commerce in the coming months, or seek an extension from the Trademark Office. If it doesn’t, then hopes for “I Dream of Nene” could be two blinks from disappearing into a bottle.
