Mariel Zagunis to Carry US Flag in Olympics 2012 Opening Ceremonies

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Mariel Zagunis will carry the U.S. flag during the Olympics 2012 Opening Ceremonies, officials confirm to news. Mariel Zagunis, a two time gold winner for fencing, was bestowed the honor this week.
Zagunis tells news that she is shocked and delighted with the honor. She will be competing this 2012 Olympic Games to earn her third medal. She made news winning in Athens, becoming the first American to earn gold in fencing in one hundred years. She earned her second gold in Beijing.
In a news statement, she said “I’m extremely humbled by this incredible privilege. As an athlete, I can’t imagine a higher honor than to lead Team USA into the Olympic Games, which are the pinnacle of sport and a platform for world peace. I am tremendously proud to represent my sport, our team and, most importantly, the United States of America.”
Also making news this week is Kobe Bryant. He tells news that he lost 16 pounds for the Olympics, especially to aid his knees. “With summer basketball leading directly into the season — and I’m expecting to play until next June — I have to take some load off my knees. I’ve got to shave some of this weight.”
He said he has also undergone special treatment on his knees that has worked. “For me, the results have been astonishing. I can run. I can train. I can do everything that I wanted to do without limping, my knee getting swollen or anything of that nature.”
