LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jared Leto is not dead. Jared Leto is battling a fake car crash story today. The same fabricated claim is also striking David Guetta Saturday as well. Fans of Leto are irate about the fabricated tale. Leto is the victim of a fabricated death story surfacing online Saturday July 7, 2012 from Global Associated aka Mediafetcher. The same death story is also being used against countless other celebrities as well, including David Guetta.
The fabricated tale is the result of a pre-designed template in which one celebrity’s name is swapped into another erroneous report. Global erroneously claims today that Leto died in a crash on Route 80, that the crash is the subject of “Highway Safety Investigators”, and that a picture from the scene has been obtained. However, the picture is fake, there is no such department of Highway Safety Investigators, and Leto wasn’t travelling on Route 80 today as well.
While Leto is the victim of only one death story today, David Guetta is the victim of four fabricated tales Saturday, all from Global. One claims he died today in a Jet Ski crash in Turks and Caicos, another asserts that he has fallen to his death in New Zealand, a third claims he was on a yacht that sunk off coast of St. Tropez, and fourth claims that he died in a Route 80 car crash as well.
One Global fabricated David Guetta death story asserts that “Turks and Caicos Police officials indicate that the musician struck a concrete boat slip in a marina on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands”. A second asserts that he “fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set.”
To date, fans have grown far more skeptical about fake celebrity death stories that involve crashes and falls. From 2008 to 2011, fans were saturated with stories about planes, trains, and cars crashing and killing their favorite celebrities. So in recent months, fake death authors have begun to use more inventive tales. Now the fake stories claim that celebrities have died because of heart attacks, snowboarding falls, and jet-ski accidents.
David Guetta and Jared Letto haven’t died. Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa weren’t in a snowboarding crash in Switzerland today. And Waka Flocka isn’t dead in the Yangadou Rainforest today either (another Global claim).
