Post Office Closed July 4 with Banks Reopening Tomorrow

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Is the Post Office open July 4th for Independence Day Holiday? Is there mail delivery on July 4? USPS remind news today that the Post Office will be closed July 4, 2012. There will be mail tomorrow, Thursday; but all branches will be closed Wednesday and there will no delivery today. The 4th of July holiday is the fifth federal holiday this year, OPM tells news.
In a news statement in January each year, OPM informs customers which federal holidays will keep post office branches closed. After today, the next holiday for USPS is September 3 for Labor Day followed by October 8 for Columbus Day.
OPM reminds news that “when a holiday falls on a non-workday — Saturday or Sunday — the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday.” The reason, OPM explains, is that “that most Federal employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule.”
Almost all banks are closed today as well. Malls, mass transit, and grocery stores are open and generally not subject to shorter hours.
All branches of the Federal Reserve and other federal offices are also closed as well. Yet, in some cases, credit unions and even some lending institutions might be open, representatives tell news.
