Nicolas Sarkozy Liliane Bettencourt Scandal Prompts Raid of Sarkozy, Carla Bruni Home

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Nicolas Sarkozy, Liliane Bettencourt campaign allegations prompted a raid today of Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni’s home in Paris. Nicolas Sarkozy has been accused of received purported illegal campaign funds in 2007 from L’Oreal cosmetics heiress Lilliane Bettencourt. Sarkozy and Bruni (photos below) were not at home at the time of the raid.
The allegations claim that Bettencourt transferred 150,000 euros Sarkozy’s electoral campaign treasurer, Eric Woerth, in 2007, a claim that he denies. The investigation began in 2011, while Woerth and Sarkozy both denied the allegations.
Today, Judge Jean-Michel Gentil gave authorization for a search of the former French president’s home. Sarkozy’s immunity ended just last month. His attorney, Thierry Herzog, tells news that his client and wife were in Canada at the time. “These raids… will as expected prove futile,” Mr. Herzog said in a statement. Bruni is not the subject of the investigation.

Meantime, Carla is reportedly pregnant with the couple’s second child, her third. France’s Closer magazine is claiming “….But we can now reveal Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is pregnant again. And with her stomach looking ever more round, she can no longer hide it. We wondered what the Sarkozy couple would do with themselves after leaving office, and now we know – play happy families.”
