LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Maria de Villota crash has left the female Formula One test driver seriously injured. Emilio de Villota’s daughter, Maria de Villota, was injured today in a Marussia F1 at the Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire outside of London. De Villota has suffered life threatening injuries, officials tell news.
Following the crash, officials told news de Villota suffered major trauma and is currently being treated at Addenbrookes Hospital. She is believed to have crashed into a non-moving team vehicle at a “low speed” today.
Her team issued the following news statement today. “Further to the accident involving the Marussia F1 Team’s test driver Maria de Villota this morning, the team can confirm that Maria was transferred by ambulance from Duxford Airfield to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
“Since Maria’s arrival at the hospital at approximately 10.45am this morning, she has been receiving the best medical attention possible at the hospital, which is the region’s major trauma centre.”
Officials also told news “Maria is conscious and medical assessments are ongoing. The team will await the outcome of these assessments before providing further comment. The team’s first priority at this time is Maria and her family.”
