Nora Ephron Dead at 71, Cause of Death Believed as Cancer

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Nora Ephron is dead at age 71. Nora Ephron died today. Cause of death has not been released to news. Ephron was reportedly battling cancer. Earlier today, Liz Smith told the Hollywood Reporter that Ephron was gravely ill. Smith said that Ephron’s son reported that the writer “was dying” but gave no further update about her condition.
Shortly after 5 pm PST today, the Washington Post reported that Ephron had died. The publication put news of Ephron’s death at the top of their front page, but with no further details. The Post simply wrote “Writer, director, producer Nora Ephron dies at 71″.
Ephron is survived by husband Nicholas Pileggi. She married Nicholas in 1987. She was previously married to Dan Greenburg in the late 1960s. The couple divorced in 1976. That same year she married Carl Bernstein. The couple had two children together – Jacob Bernstein and Max Bernstein – before divorcing in 1980.
Ephron once said “Insane people are always sure that they are fine. It is only the sane people who are willing to admit that they are crazy.” Ephron most recently did the screenplay for Julie and Julia. She previously wrote Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You’ve Got Mail (1998). Her credits included also directing, producing, and acting.
